[Ilyo Shinmun] Warning signs are emerging regarding the health of office workers. Despite the rising risk of various ailments caused by frequent overtime, irregular meals, and chronic stress, many still fail to undergo regular health checkups on time. In particular, office workers in their 30s to 50s frequently postpone these checkups in favor of work priorities, often missing opportunities for the early detection of diseases.

According to data from the National Health Insurance Service, major chronic diseases—such as cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and diabetes—show high treatment success rates and favorable prognoses when detected early. In particular, conditions like hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes often lack distinct early symptoms, making regular check-ups virtually the only means of prevention.

Against this backdrop, the summer vacation season presents an excellent opportunity for office workers who have postponed medical check-ups due to busy schedules. The reduced workload and extra time available during the holidays create an environment where one can undergo these examinations in a relatively relaxed state of mind.

Some screening centers are making efforts to improve accessibility for office workers by offering early-morning appointments and conducting screenings on weekends. Such systems are considered to have a positive impact on increasing participation rates and securing opportunities for early diagnosis.

Scheduling a health check-up during summer vacation can be an excellent opportunity to assess one's health—something that is often overlooked during busy times. If you are eligible for a health check-up, it is advisable to check the specific tests offered, the appropriate timing, and the reservation process through the National Health Insurance Service in advance.

Baek Seung-hyeok, Director of the Busan Future IFC Medical Checkup Center, explained, "Health checkups are the most fundamental yet crucial method for preventing various diseases and detecting physical abnormalities at an early stage." He continued, "Even if you have no specific health issues, it is necessary to undergo regular checkups to assess your current health status. Cultivating the habit of identifying and preparing for potential problems before they arise plays a vital role in safeguarding your health." He added, "Simply by undergoing consistent checkups at the recommended intervals, one can prevent many diseases."

As the understanding that prevention is more important than treatment gains traction, the importance of health checkups is also growing. Taking a moment out of a busy daily routine to check one's health status is truly the first step toward improving the quality of life.
